USD Swimming announces 2009-10 recruiting class Jason Mahowald, head swimming and diving coach at The University of South Dakota, has announced the Coyotes' 2009-10 recruiting class. Twelve student-athletes will continue their academic and athletic career at USD starting in the fall of 2009. The incoming freshmen class includes seven men and five women. The 2009-10 USD men's swimming and diving incoming freshmen include: Taylor Adams (Highlands Ranch, CO) Nicholas Challgren (Cedar Falls, IA), John Dolan (Omaha, NE) Tyler Haddix (Gillette, WY), Cody Horton (Mitchell,), Sean Swanson (Bellevue, NE) and Sinjia Wilkerson (Hastings, MN). The 2009 USD women's incoming freshmen include: Stephanie Goddard (Casper, WY) Katherine Hines (West Des Moines, IA), Kaitlyn Jefferson (Westland, MI) Jaclyn Kahnke (Shakopee, MN) and Amber Sorgea (Alton, IL). "This is probably one of the deepest recruiting classes that we have signed in a number of years," Mahowald said. "This class will bring even more strength in our sprint and diving events. This is the class that will help lead us into Summit League competition, and we are confident that they will make an immediate impact." 2009-10 Coyote Men's Recruits • Taylor Adams, Sprints, Highlands Ranch, CO (Thunder Ridge HS) Lettered in swimming all four years of high school…holds school records in the 100 and 200 meter free…named team captain of second-ranked team in state during senior season…state qualifier numerous times…has personal-best times of 22.8 in the 50 meter free, 49.21 in the 100 meter free, 1:47.65 in the 200 meter free, 54.11 in the 100 meter fly and 55.10 in the 100 meter backstroke. • Nicholas Challgren, Sprints, Cedar Falls, IA (Cedar Falls HS) Two-time All-American…three-time member of All-State team…2009 District Athlete of the Year…two-year team captain…four-year letterwinner in swimming. • John Dolan, Sprint, Omaha, NE (Westside HS) State qualifier sophomore year…junior year placed fourth in the 200 free and ninth in the 100 free…senior year placed eighth in the 100 meter free as well as the 200 meter free, also a member of the 200 freestyle relay team that placed fifth…has personal-best times of :22 in the 50 meter free, :57 in the 100 meter free, and 1:46 in the 200 meter free. • Tyler Haddix, Distance, Gillette, WY (Campbell County HS) Four-year letterwinner in both swimming and soccer…named to the All-Conference team as well as All-State swim team…member of state champion 400 meter freestyle relay…member of state runner-up in 200 freestyle relay…placed fourth in the 500 meter freestyle and fifth in the 200 meter freestyle. • Cody Horton, Sprints, Mitchell (Mitchell HS) Horton won the 200 meter freestyle state championship in 2008…lettered all four years of high school. • Sean Swanson, Sprints, Bellevue, NE (Bellevue West HS) Lettered all four years in high school…competed in the 2007 Nebraska State Swim meet in the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay…in 2008 competed at state as a member of the 200 medley relay team, 200 free relay, and 400 free relay…competed at the 2009 state meet in the 200 medley relay, 200 free, 100 free, and 400 free relay …set school record as a member of the 200 freestyle relay team…three year letter winner in Academics…two-time member of the Academic All-State swim team. • Sinjin Wilkerson, Sprints, Hastings, MN (Hastings HS) Named to the All-Conference team five times…Club state champion in the 200 meter backstroke…holds records as a member of the 400 freestyle relay and also the 200 medley relay…has personal best times of 54.39 in the 100 meter fly, 54.10 in the 100 meter backstroke. 2009-10 Coyote Women's Recruits • Stephanie Goddard, Sprint, Casper, WY (Kelly Walsh HS) Took seventh at the state meet in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:13.60…placed fourth in the 100 backstroke at the Winter State Short Course Championship…is seventh in the 100 breaststroke and eighth in the Kelly Walsh Hall of Fame…three-year letterwinner…earned team high point honors in junior and senior year. • Katherine Hines, Distance, West Des Moines, IA (Valley HS) Four time varsity letter winner…member of team state champion all four years of high school…named second team All-State in 2006 and 2007 in the 500 meter freestyle…made first team All-State in 2008 in the 500 meter freestyle. • Kaitlyn Jefferson, Sprint, Westland, MI (Mercy HS) Named All-County, All-Catholic All-Area, All-State and All-American during prep career…holds Catholic League records for 50 free (2006), and is part of Catholic League record-holding 200 medley relay, 200 free relay and 400 free relay teams…also holds Mercy High School pool records for 200 medley relay, 100 freestyle, 200 free relay, 400 fre relay, and also holds 200 medley relay and 400 free Mercy varsity records…part of 200 medley relay which holds D2 MHSAA state record. • Jaclyn Kahnke, Distance, Shakopee, MN (Shakopee HS) Named to All-Conference swim team and All-Conference academic team three years…two time team MVP…named most improved varsity swimmer…holds personal bests of 5:24 in the 500 meter freestyle, 2:02 in the 200 meter freestyle and :57.99 in the 100 meter freestyle. • Amber Sorgea, Diving, Alton, IL (Alton HS) Received varsity letter in diving all four years of high school…named school's diving captain three years in a row…named all-area diver of the year for the past three years…also participated in basketball, volleyball and swimming.
