USD Track and Field lead by Kuhlmann, Owens and Clement at Nebraska Invitational The University of South Dakota track and field team earned 41 top-ten finishes at the Nebraska Invitational today in Lincoln, NE. The women earned 23 top-ten finishes and were led by Heather Kuhlmann who won the 5000-meter event, while the men earned 18 top-ten finishes as they were led by Tane Owens, earning fourth in the pole vault and Jared Clement who also earned fourth in the 100m dash. USD competed against individuals from the University of Nebraska, Northwest Missouri State, Missouri-Kansas City, Wayne State, Nebraska-Kearney and Concordia among others. Women's Highlights: Heather Kuhlmann (Sr., Nebraska City, NE) was the champion of the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:17.20 while teammates Kelsey Maloney (Sr., Sioux Falls) and Abby Duling (Fr., Gregory) finished third (17:44.02) and eighth. Haley Peterson (So., Norfolk, NE) earned a top five finish in the pole vault as she cleared 11-01.75 to place fifth. Teammates Megan Kahler (Jr., Dakota Dunes) and Natalie Newman (Fr., Overland Park, KS) placed eighth and ninth in the event. Amy Velthoff (Sr., Harlan, IA) placed 10th in the hammer throw with a mark of 42.99m and Shara Thompson (So., Brookings) placed 11th in the women's javelin throw (30.04m) and 10th in the discus. Allison Duba (Sr., Sioux Falls) ran a time of 4:55.56 in the 1500-meter run to earn the 12th spot. Duba also earned a 10th place finish in the 800m run (2.22.73). Crystal Schiernbeck (So., Ida Grove, IA) placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.17. Haley Juhnke (So., Vivian) was right behind finishing 9th with a time of 15.76. Allie Smith (Sr., Wahpeton, ND) placed 8th in the 400m hurdles (1:05.80) while Christina Roberts (Fr., Omaha, NE) was 10th in the 100m dash with a time of 12.80. Schiernbeck, Roberts and Ashlea Johnson (Fr., Yankton) all finished in the top-10 of the 200-meter dash. Tia Haines (Jr., White Lake) was eighth in the long jump while Allie Smith placed ninth. Haines and Johnson also earned fourth and eighth in the triple jump. The women's 4×100 team's finished third and fourth with times of 48.65 and 49.38 and the 4×400 team earned fifth (3:58.07). Men's Highlights: Jared Clement (So., LeMars, IA) had a strong showing in the 100m dash as he earned fourth place after posting a time of 10.80. Tim Rust (Magnolia, MN) finished 10th in the event (11.31). Clement also finished 8th in the 200-meter dash on the day. Beau Hoodjer (Jr., Lincoln, NE) finished 9th in the high jump (6-02.75), while Pinkelman and Jeff Sebern (Fr., Brookings) were 10th and 11th in the event. Rob Gregoire (Jr., Wakonda) ran a 4:02.98 in the men's 1500-meter run to place in the ninth spot. Tyler Williamson (Jr., Estelline) finished 8th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.68, while Sean Fitzsimmons (Jr., Yankton) was 9th in the 5000m run. Ben Walters (Sr., Lennox) and Preston Scott (Sr., Parker) earned sixth and seventh place in the hammer throw as Walters threw it 52.12m and Scott had a 52.02m mark. Walters also earned fifth in the discus (48.39m) and sixth place in the shot put (16.02m). Scott and Kyle Wheeler (So., Omaha, NE) placed seventh and eighth in the discus. Tane Owens (Sr., Pierre) placed in the top five of the javelin throw as he threw it 45.34m to earn the fifth spot. Owens also did well in the pole vault placing fourth with a jump of 15-03.00. Cody Linder (Fr., Plattsmouth, NE) and Chad Pinkelman (Fr., Norfolk, NE) earned 14th and 15th in the men's long jump. Kyle Poss (Fr., Sioux City, IA) placed 12th in the 800m run with a time of 1:57.01. The men's 4×400 of Bill Lane (Fr., Sioux City, IA), Clement, Williamson and Poss finished fifth with a time of 3:21.33 while the 4×100 meter relay team consisting of Alex Perkowski (Jr., Chicago, IL), Marcus Sims (Fr., Brooklyn Park, Minn.), Jared Clement and Jeremy Blount (Fr., Tampa, FL) earned 6th place with a time of 42.60. Lane also earned a ninth place finish in the men's 400m hurdles. USD's next meets will be next weekend, April 16-18 when they will compete at the Kansas Relays in Lawrence, KS and the Sioux City Relays in Sioux City, IA.
