Walters named GWC track athlete of the week

Walters named GWC track athlete of the week The University of South Dakota's Ben Walters has earned the Great West Conference Male Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week award for his performance last week, the conference office announced recently. Walters placed in the top three in three different categories, including first place finishes in the shot put and the hammer throw at the South Dakota State Twilight Open. The senior also placed third in the discus throw. Walters, a Lennox native, captured the shot put with a throw of 53'8.25 and also claimed the first place honor in the hammer throw with a mark of 175'1. He leads the Great West Conference in the shot put and hammer throw and is second in the conference in the discus.
