Adeline Witt Adeline Witt, 95, of Vermillion, died Saturday, May 9, 2009 at the Sanford Vermillion Care Center. Adeline Minnie Urban was born Dec. 14, 1913 near Butler, to Fred and Pauline (Luckow) Urban. She graduated from Butler High School, obtained a teaching certificate from Northern State Teacher's College, and taught in rural schools in Day County for five years. Adeline married Frank C. Witt on Nov. 26, 1936 at her home farm south of Butler. They raised their family and farmed southwest of Butler on the Witt Hereford farms until 1968 when they moved to Aberdeen. There, she finished her four year teaching degree at Northern State College. After teaching in Sisseton for five years, they moved to Aberdeen where they lived for 23 years. In 1998, Frank and Adeline moved to Vermillion. Frank died in 2005. Adeline enjoyed teaching, tutoring, playing games (especially Scrabble), working crossword puzzles, gardening, sewing, needlework, and braiding large area rugs. She was an active member of the Butler Lutheran Church. She is survived by two sons, Robert (Velma) of Butler, and Richard (Kathy) of Flossmoor, IL; and two daughters, Faith (Bob) Freese of Vermillion, and Bette Poss of Sandpoint, ID; 10 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. A celebration of life service was be held at 2:30 pm Tuesday, May 12, at the Sanford Vermillion Care Center.
