Beth Goeden is USD Employee of the Month Beth Goeden, computer support specialist with Information Technology Services, is the May 2009 Career Services Employee of the Month at The University of South Dakota. "It's a surprise," Goeden said with a smile as she accepted the award during a reception in her honor at the Temporary Student Center Monday afternoon. "Everybody in our department is always upbeat. They're just an enjoyable group to work with." Goeden was nominated for the award by faculty members in the College of Fine Arts, including Larry Schou, D.M.A., associate dean and chair of the department of music; Gary Reeves, D.M.A., associate professor of music; and Darin Wadley, D.M.A., assistant professor of music. "Beth does a great job of working with my faculty to deal with their technology-related issues – hardware and software," Schou stated in his nomination of Goeden, who has been at USD for five years. "Beth is always pleasant and great to work with. She works hard to meet our needs in a timely way." Added Wadley, "she has worked on my computer a couple of times and was always very accommodating and professional. She is sensitive to how tied we are to our computers and how clueless we are on how they work." Goeden, who lives in rural Beresford with her husband, Travis, and their daughter, Torian, 9, began working at USD five years ago after a decade at Gateway. After two years working for the Help Desk, she transitioned into her role as an ITS computer support specialist three years ago. She currently lends a hand to the College of Fine Arts, athletics, Dakota Hall, Old Main and Facilities Management when computer issues arise. "I enjoy the day-to-day aspects of my job because of the people I work with and those that need help," described Goeden, a 1993 graduate of Elk Point High School. "Everyone's always nice and very understanding, even if the issue takes time to resolve."
