CCYTF board announces 2009 scholarship recipients The Clay County Youth Trust Fund, Inc. Board of Directors announces the 2009 scholarship recipients. The Rosie & Vi Venard Scholarship was awarded to Luke Heine, Stacy Bottolfson and Tony Hubert. Luke is the son of Tim and Julie Heine. Luke graduated from Vermilion High School in 2008 and has been attending Augustana College majoring in business. Stacy Bottolfson, the daughter of Mark and Beth Bottolfson, has been attending Southwest Minnesota State University majoring in business management. Stacy also graduated from Vermillion High in 2008. Tony Hubert, son of Joe and Jeanette Hubert, will be starting his second year at South Dakota State University where he is enrolled in the general ag program. Tony was a 2008 graduate of Vermillion High School. 4-H Scholarships were awarded to Rebecca Hawley, Emily Holoch and Shannon Jepsen, all 2009 graduates of Vermillion High School. Rebecca, the daughter of Linda Hawley, will be attending Southeast Technical Institute to major in architectural drafting. Emily, the daughter of Duane and Connie Holoch, is planning to attend St. Cloud State University and will major in mass communications. The daughter of Scott and Jeanne Jepsen, Shannon will be studying biology/pre-medicine at South Dakota State University. Centennial Scholarships were awarded to eight students this year. Abby Gylfe, a 2009 graduate of Beresford High School and the daughter of Roland and Kaye Gylfe, will be attending Northern State University to major in biology/pre-Dental. Sarah Hansen, a 2008 graduate of Vermillion High School, will be starting her second year at Black Hills State University. The daughter of Brad and Jean Hansen, Sarah is in the early childhood/Special Ed and elementary education program. Kevin Henriksen, the son of Daryl and Donna Henriksen, is a 2009 Irene-Wakonda High School graduate and is planning on attending Mitchell Technical Institute to enroll in the ag technology program. Rich Howard, son of Marcia Morrison and a 2009 graduate of Irene-Wakonda High School, will be studying elementary education at the University of South Dakota. Kyle Hubert, the son of Joe and Jeanette Hubert, will be starting his final year at South Dakota State University where he is majoring in the wildlife and fisheries science program. Kyle was a 2006 Vermillion High School graduate. Lance Hubert is a 2009 graduate of Vermillion High School and the son of Mark and Lori Hubert. Lance will be attending Southeast Technical Institute where he plans to major in accounting. Tia Krier plans to attend South Dakota State University and enroll in the pharmacy program. Tia is the daughter of Paul and Paula Krier and a 2009 graduate of Vermillion High. Lane Stockland, the son of Charles and Suzanne Stockland will be attending South Dakota State University this fall and major in engineering. Lane is a 2009 graduate of Irene-Wakonda High School. The Clay County Youth Trust Fund awards are presented annually to Clay County residents. The Venard, 4-H and Centennial Scholarship applicants must be Clay County youth and attending or will be attending a higher school of education. All applicants must demonstrate abilities in scholastics, leadership and citizenship. Scholarships are funded from the Clay County Youth Trust Fund, Inc., a non-profit organization designed to provide financial aid to Clay County youth. It is administered by a Board of Directors comprised of Cathi Powell, Mike Lynch, Phyllis Sternquist, Mike Carlson, Julie Fallan, Deb Christensen and Ray Passick. Rose and Vi Venard were the principal founders and contributors to the fund. Memorials and gifts to the fund are tax-exempt. The board thanks all who donate each year.
