MUC dedication
scheduled Friday The University of South Dakota is hosting a dedication ceremony at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 15 for the Theodore R. and Karen K. Muenster University Center. The building, named in honor of former USD Foundation President Theodore (Ted) Muenster and his wife, Karen, is a learning laboratory linked to I.D. Weeks library in the heart of USD's campus, but the facility is also equipped to accommodate a variety of student social events. Friday's ceremony will include comments from USD President James W. Abbott; Carole Pagones, a member of the South Dakota Board of Regents; USD students Ryan Budmayr of Belle Fourche, and Erin Alberts of Rapid City, and Muenster. Jeffrey Baylor, associate vice president of enrollment and student services at USD, is the master of ceremonies. The 70,000 square foot facility, designed by Charles Rose Architects, Inc. out of Somerville, MA, officially opened in February. Overflowing with features, the interior of the facility includes everything from a multi-level campus dining area – with indoor and outdoor seating – to a 500-person capacity multipurpose ballroom. Complete with state-of-the-art conference rooms, meeting areas, a multi-cultural center, and offices for USD's Student Government Association and Student Activities Center, the new facility also has a new Barnes and Noble Campus Bookstore. Construction of the Muenster University Center has been funded by the students of The University of South Dakota with assistance of a generous grant from the J.B. and M.K. Pritzker Family Foundation.
