Red Sox score first victory By Parker Knox
Sportswriter Vermillion's Red Sox scored their first victory of the new season last Wednesday, showing some offensive power in a 16-9 win on the road over the Akron Rebels. There were no home runs to account for any of the 16 Vermillion runs, but there were plenty of other base knocks, and just about everybody on Manager Kirk Sorensen's club contributed to the onslaught. Jim McNaughton recorded a double and a pair of singles, Colby Lessman two doubles and a single, Justin Beebe three hits and Mike Oberle two hits to lead the way offensively. Thomas Alissio and Garrett Linhardt did the hurling for the Sox in the non-league contest. The Red Sox will take on the Vermillion Grey Sox at 2 p.m. Sunday in this summer's first meeting of the in-town rivals. Another game recently added to the Red Sox schedule will be played at Yankton next Thursday, June 4.
