Osterkamp Richard W. Osterkamp, 87, of Vermillion, passed away Friday, May 22, 2009 at Hawarden Community Hospital in Hawarden, IA. Richard was born Jan. 4, 1922, in Klemme, IA, to John and Henrietta (Huisman) Osterkamp. He farmed with his dad near Ireton, Iowa. He then purchased a farm at Millnerville, IA. He moved to Vermillion, where he worked at the Vermillion Alfalfa Mill, the University of South Dakota, and St. Agnes Catholic Church. He married Cornelia DeJong on Jan. 13, 1945, in South Sioux City. She died Sept. 17, 1994. Richard enjoyed traveling with his wife, listening to country music, and socializing with friends. Survivors include his brother, Edward (Joan) Osterkamp of Alcester; his sisters, Kathryn Oulman of Forest City, IA, and Grace Morehead of Hawarden, IA; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brothers, William and John Jr.; his sisters, Lena Oulman, Elizabeth Heitzig, Minnie Pitzenberger, Frances Heck, Mary Harris, and Christina Dwello. Visitation was 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at the Iverson-Siecke-Kober Funeral Home, Vermillion. Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, at the Iverson-Siecke-Kober Funeral Home, Vermillion with Rev. Sandy Aakre officiating. Burial was in BluffView Cemetery, Vermillion.
