is May 30-31 The Clay County Historic Preservation Commission invites the public to attend a walking tour of the Vermillion Downtown Historic District, which was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. The tour will be May 30-31 at 2 p.m. starting at the Austin Whittemore House at 15 Austin Street. The tour will be lead by Tom Thaden, a local historian and author of the recent book From the River Valleys to the Rising Bluff: A Pictorial History of Vermillion, South Dakota, 1859-2009 and Jim Wilson, a member of the preservation commission. This is an opportunity for everyone to learn more about the history of downtown properties, both those that are still remaining and those that are no longer here. The event is free and open to the public.
