Area students receive Sanford Vermillion Medical Center and Dakota Hospital Foundation Scholarships

Area students receive Sanford Vermillion Medical Center and Dakota Hospital Foundation Scholarships  Sanford Vermillion Medical Center (SVMC) and Dakota Hospital Foundation recently awarded $4,500 in academic scholarships to area high school students. HEALTH CAREER SCHOLARSHIP Daniel Davies, a 2009 graduate of Vermillion High School was awarded a SVMC and Dakota Hospital Foundation Healthcare Career Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Davies will be attending the University of South Dakota in the fall of 2009 majoring in pre-medicine/biology. His goal is to become a family practice physician. Dan is the son of Tom and Karen Davies of Vermillion. Tyler Kielman, 2009 graduate of Vermillion High School was awarded a SVMC and Dakota Hospital Foundation Healthcare Career Scholarship in the amount of $1,000. Kielman will be attending the University of South Dakota in the fall of 2009 majoring in Health Sciences and plans to further his education in the area of physical therapy. Tyler is the son of Mary Derby of Vermillion and Steve Kielman of Brandon, South Dakota. The purpose of the SVMC and Dakota Hospital Foundation Healthcare Career Scholarship is to identify and retain outstanding Vermillion area students dedicated to furthering their education in a health related occupation at the University of South Dakota. EMPLOYEE DEPENDENT SCHOLARSHIP Area students Matthew Auch, Grant Rolfes and Dana Hannahs were each awarded a 2009 SVMC and Dakota Hospital Foundation Employee Dependent Scholarship. Matthew Auch, a 2009 graduate of Centerville High School was awarded a $1,000 scholarship. Auch plans to attend South Dakota State University majoring in Civil Engineering. Matthew is the son of Mary and Duane Auch of Centerville. Mary is a Registered Dietitian at Sanford Vermillion Medical Center. Grant Rolfes, a 2009 graduate of Newcastle High School was awarded a $1,000 scholarship. Rolfes plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Omaha majoring in Architectural Engineering. Grant is the son of Julie and Mark Rolfes of Newcastle. Julie is the Therapeutic Recreation Department Director at Sanford Care Center Vermillion. Dana Hannahs, a 2009 graduate of Vermillion High School was awarded a $500 scholarship. Hannahs plans to attend the University of South Dakota with a goal of entering the dental hygiene program. Dana is the daughter of Tim and Wanda Hannahs of Vermillion. Tim is the Plant Operations Manager at Sanford Vermillion. The purpose of the SVMC and Dakota Hospital Foundation Employee Dependent Scholarship is to identify outstanding achievement on the part of employees' children who are planning to pursue a post-secondary education in a two or four-year college, university or vocational-technical program.
