Carl Anderson Carl W. Anderson of Palo Alto died peacefully on May 21, 2009. Carl was born in Canton, on Feb. 25, 1934 to Carl and Anona Anderson. Carl graduated from The University of South Dakota in 1957 and was an Army first lieutenant and National Guard captain before his 32-year career with Hewlett-Packard. His interest in electronics, facility with words and ongoing curiosity about people and places led him to marketing posts in the U.S. and Europe. He and his wife, Anne toured 47 countries in their 50 years of marriage. Carl inherited his mother's musical ability, singing and playing sousaphone. His sense of humor was expressed in gentle practical jokes and parody lyrics dramatically performed. Carl is survived by Anne; daughter, Cathy (David Goering) of Newton, KS; son, Michael of Menlo Park, CA; and half-siblings, Charles Anderson of Leawood, KS, Judi Woodruff of Seminole, FL and Kathy Conley (Doyal) of Gainesville, GA. A celebration of Carl's life will be held Saturday, May 30 at 2 p.m., Grace Lutheran Church, 3149 Waverley St., Palo Alto, CA. Donation in Carl's name may be made to a marching band, the USS Liberty Veterans Association (c/o Blazer Associates, Inc., 4994 Lower Roswell Rd. Suite 33, Marietta, GA 30068) the Peninsula Women's Chorus (PO Box 50532, Palo Alto, CA 94303) or the Vasculitis Association (PO Box 28660, Kansas City, MO 64188).
