Chamber Chat By Vermillion Area Chamber of Commerce & Development Company 906 E Cherry St., Vermillion, SD  57069 605-624-5571 vcdc@vermillionchamber.com www.vermillionchamber.com   Chamber Business: In preparation for our annual July 4 Celebration we are offering the opportunity to various organizations within the community to showcase their services at this popular community event.  Organizations in the past have used this opportunity to do fundraising either through selling food or merchandise or by having an activity set up for event goers.  As in previous years, the event will be held at Barstow Park from 6 p.m. to dark, followed by fireworks.  Entertainment options will include music and an activity area for kids with games and inflatables.  If you would like to participate or have questions regarding this event, please contact Carly at the VCDC office 624-5571 or email carlyh@vermillionchamber.com.   This  Weeks Happenings! • The State Garden Club Convention is Friday and Saturday, June 5 and 6 at the Trinity Lutheran Askland Lounge and Fellowship Hall. • Missouri River Water Trail Kickoff Event is Saturday, June 6.  Join area river enthusiasts for an outing on the Missouri River to showcase the development of the new water trail. The route will be from Mulberry Bend near the Newcastle-Vermillion Bridge to Bolton (Chaney's Landing) near Burbank.  For times, kyak rental info, etc. go to www.mnrrwatertrail.org. • Rhubarb Day, Saturday, June 6 at W.H. Over Museum beginning at 1 p.m.  Rhubarb recipe contest, apron display, biggest and best rhubarb stalks, biggest and best rhubarb leaf and more!  Call 605-677-5228 or email whover@usd.edu for more information. • Treasure Hunt.  Kids of all ages should see this lively musical production.  Performances are Friday, June 5 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, June 6 at 2 p.m. at the Vermillion High School Theatre. Tickets are $5 for K-Adult, no charge for kids under 5.  This show is a collaborative effort between the Vermillion Community Theatre and the Children's Theatre Company of South Dakota and features 50 local young actors.  For more information go to www.vermillioncommunitytheatre.org. • Pottery Exhibit, featuring Anthony Millette's rustic salt and wood-fired cups, bowls and vases will be on display at The Coffee Shop Gallery through the month of June. • "Urban Five:  The Art of Healing," a contemporary art exhibit, will be in the Main Gallery of the Warren M. Lee Center through June 26.  The reception will be June 21 from 3 to 5 p.m.  Free and open to the public.   Next Weeks Happenings! Free Youth Fishing Derby, Monday, June 8 at The Bluffs Golf Course.  Ages 9 and under registration begins at 9:45 a.m.  Ages 10 to 15 registration begins at 10:45 a.m.  Fishing poles and bait will be provided.  Catch and release will be enforced. • Summer Film Festival at the Vermillion Public Library, Wednesday, June 10 in the Community Room at 6:30 p.m.  The feature film Mr. Holland's Opus will be shown.  Lemonade and popcorn will be provided! • Eagle's Dakota State Convention will be held at the Vermillion Eagles Club June 10 – 13.  The convention will bring 200 – 300 out-of-town guests to Vermillion! • National Music Museum's Brown Bag Lunch Program will feature "Cantori:  Kaleidoscope," an advanced-level children's choir, Omaha, NE Choral Arts Society, from 12:05 to 12:55 p.m. on Friday, June 12.  Free and open to the public. • Man of La Mancha, a musical play presented by the USD Playhouse will be June 12, 13 & 14 at the Wayne S. Knutson Theatre in the Warren M. Live music by The McNeils.  A Sesquicentennial Event!  Everyone welcome. • National Music Museum's Brown Bag Lunch Program will feature "Vermillion's Own King of the Guitar, T. Wilson King" from 12:05 to 12:55 p.m. on Friday, June 19.  Free and open to the public. • Dalesburg MidSommar Festival will be held on Friday, June 19, starting at 2 p.m. on the grounds of the Dalesburg Lutheran Church, 12 miles north of Vermillion on University Road.
