James Isidore Manning James Isidore Manning, 92, of Vermillion, passed away Friday, June 12, 2009 at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton. Isidore was born Aug. 24, 1916 on the family farm at Burbank to Dennis and Mary Ellen (Walsh) Manning. He started farming at age 16 and was involved in farming for the rest of this life. He married Coletta Birgen on Feb. 12, 1944 in Beresford. They lived on the family farm near Burbank, until moving to Vermillion in 1992. He made daily visits to the farm after moving to town and stayed very involved in the family farming. Isidore was a member of St. Mary's in Garryowen and St. Agnes Parish in Vermillion. Isidore loved God, his family and farming, and enjoyed reading and playing pitch. Grateful for having shared his life are two daughters, Cleo (Bob) Kast of Beresford, and Kathleen (Richard) Nissen of Vermillion; three sons, David (Kathy) Manning of Burbank, Mike (Linda) Manning of Vermillion, and Joe (Dawn) Manning of Burbank. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; two sister-in-laws, Margaret O'Connell of Wichita, KS, and Margaret Manning of Vermillion; and a brother-in-law, Mathew (Maureen) Birgen of Beresford. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 61 years, Coletta (Birgen) Manning; his parents; five brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 15, at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion. Burial was in the Garryowen Cemetery, rural Vermillion.
