Mildred Svoboda

Mildred Svoboda Mildred Luella Svoboda, 82, of Vermillion, died Monday, June 8, 2009 at Prairie Estates Care Center in Elk Point, after a battle with cancer. Mildred was born June 21, 1926 in Chamberlain, to Fred and Ora (Pease) Hade. The family lived on Mildred's grandfather's homestead in Lyman County. She went to Lyman County schools and graduated from Chamberlain High School before going on and graduating from the Methodist School of Nursing in Mitchell. Mildred married Berwyn Svoboda on Dec. 27, 1947. She worked for 30 years, at Community Bailey Hospital in Chamberlain and then at Dakota Hospital in Vermillion after the family relocated there around 40 years ago. She was an active member of the communities in which she lived, serving in the Eagles Club for 30 years and the Just To Be Club for 35 years. She was also an active member of United Church of Christ Congregational Church in Vermillion. She is survived by her husband, Berwyn; daughters, Joyce Svoboda of Rochester, MN, Susan (Jonathon) Watkin of Denver, CO, and Janet (Auddie) Sharp of Kansas City, MO; son, Wayne (Mary) Svoboda of Fond du Lac, WI, and three grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ralph and Delmer Hade. Visitation was held 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June  11, at the United Church of Christ Congregational in Vermillion, with the family present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 12, at the United Church of Christ Congregational, with Rev.
