Renner defeats Red Sox By Parker Knox
Sportswriter The Vermillion Red Sox, after a game at Yankton Thursday night, continue on the road with a Sunday date at Garretson as the new season continues. The Red Sox will return to Prentis Park for a 7:30 date against Elk Point next Wednesday, June 10. The Sox took a 1-1 record to Renner to face the defending state champion Monarchs on May 26 and came home with a 14-3 defeat. Vermillion scored a run in the top of the third to cut its deficit to 3-1, but the Monarchs followed with four runs in the third and a six-run burst in the fourth to put the contest well out of reach. The Red Sox added a pair of runs in the fifth and had six hits in the game. Thomas Alessio started on the mound for the Red Sox and lasted 2 1/3 innings. Kevin Longman threw for 1 2/3 innings, Garrett Linhardt for one inning and Brad Donovan for two frames. They allowed a total of 11 hits as the Monarchs improved to 3-0 on the season
