Blood donations in high demand; blood drive July 21 The need for blood takes no vacation. There is a consistent need for blood to be used for surgery, cancer, trauma or burn patients. It could be a family member, friend, maybe even you. Local donors are needed to make sure the supply of blood is available to meet patient needs everyday. You can help insure an adequate summer blood supply by coming out to donate on Tuesday, July 21 from 10 a.m. to 1p.m. and 2:30 to 6 p.m. at Sanford Vermillion Medical Center. All blood types are in critical need. "This blood drive supports the needs of patients during one of the most difficult times of the year to maintain an adequate blood supply," states Ken Versteeg, executive director, Community Blood Bank. "With many people on vacation and traveling, blood donations have decreased by 25-30 percent; however the need remains strong throughout the summer months." For more information or to make an appointment please call Sanford Vermillion Medical Center at 624-2611 or log onto www.cbblifeblood.org. Walk-ins are always welcome. Community Blood Bank is the sole blood provider to Sanford Vermillion Medical Center. All who donate will receive a special "All American" blood donor t-shirt and a light lunch, compliments of Sanford Vermillion Medical Center. Donors must be at least 17 years of age 3 (16 years old with signed parent consent), be in good general health and weigh at least 110 pounds. It is recommended that a person eat and drink plenty of fluid prior to donating. Donating blood on the Community Blood Bank bloodmobile takes just 25-30 minutes.
