Elmer L. Rasmussen Elmer L. Rasmussen, 92, of Vermillion, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Sunrise Manor, Irene. He was born march 3, 1917, in Vermillion to Mads and Anna Rasmussen. He attended Elmwood Rural School. He was employed by the Vermillion Alfalfa Mill. He was a member of the Vermillion VFW Clay Post #3061. He served as a Seaman 1st Class in the U.S. Navy. He married Gladys Gray May 23, 1945, in Meckling. He is survived by his wife, Gladys, of Vermillion; daughter and son-in-law, Cheri and Mark Brommer of Yankton; sons and daughters-in-law, J.R. and Karen Rasmussen of Yankton, David and Sandy Rasmussen of Bloomington, MN, Michael and Linda Rasmussen of Vermillion; Randy Rasmussen and Tim and Dorothy Rasmussen, both of Sioux Falls; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. His funeral was at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 25, at Iverson Siecke Kober Funeral Home, Vermillion, with Rev. Mike Lindsay officiating. Burial was in BluffView Cemetery with military honors by the Vermillion VFW Clay Post. Visitation was one hour prior to services on Saturday. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mads and Anna Rasmussen; brothers, Ted, Hans, Ralph; sisters, Edna Gray, Christy Thorson, Jenny Fisher and Martha Andrews; and one great-grandchild.
