Radio adds
exciting programs Exciting things are in store for SDPB Radio in July. Two new and creative local programs are coming to SDPB Radio – Extended Play and Rock Garden Tour. It all starts on Saturday, July 4. Saturdays: 11 p.m. Extended Play, a new one-hour program, puts you right in the record shop with Karl Gehrke, for an eclectic mix of music. This new program puts you into an imaginary record store. Host Karl Gehrke is the owner, and he selects music around a theme for each show. He'll look at how a variety of genres deal with the theme, while he deals with imaginary visitors and interruptions, like Scratchy the cat and his Uncle Tony. The only requirement for the music is that it be good. Sundays: 9 p.m. This American Life, one of Saturday's most popular talk programs, gets an encore. 10 p.m.: Rock Garden Tour mixes two of producer Ted Heeren's favorite things: gardening and rock 'n' roll. What sprouts is totally unique radio. The show is hosted by Flower Man, with help from his sidekick, Oil Can. The show mixes rock music, gardening tips, road trips around South Dakota, original music and even parodies. In the end, it celebrates the things that make South Dakota a great state. 11 p.m.: Blues & Beyond, a tour of blues, jazz and more, moves from Saturdays to Sundays. Weekdays: 11 p.m. World Café brings an international mix to the air for two hours every weeknight. South Dakota Public Broadcasting is a statewide multi-media network offering quality entertainment and lifelong learning via Television, Radio, Internet and Education & Outreach.
