Red Sox district play begins July 29 By Parker Knox
Sportswriter Vermillion's Red Sox amateur team has three regular-season games remaining before district tournament play begins on July 29. The Sox will play the Akron Rebels in Akron at 2 p.m. Sunday, then host the Sioux City Saints next Wednesday and Renner next Thursday. The Red Sox posted their 10th victory of the summer last Sunday in North Sioux City, handing the Dakota Valley Pilots a 12-0 shutout. Jared Heidesch was king in command from the pitching mound, permitting the home team only one hit in the seven-inning whitewashing. The Red Sox followed a four-run second inning with a seven-run third to blow the game open and give Heidesch more than enough support. A single run in the seventh completed the scoring. Robin Chute homered and had two doubles among his four hits. Ben Oberle had three hits, and Colby Lessmann also stroked a home run off the Pilots' Steve Wager. The Red Sox took a 10-6 record into scheduled home games against Larchwood and Canton this past Tuesday and Wednesday.
