SD State Fair Cook-Off applications now online Are you ready to show off your culinary expertise at the South Dakota State Fair? Applications are now available for the SD State Fair BBQ Beef Cook-Off and the Jack's Campers Chili Challenge, to be held Sunday, Sept. 6. The first place champion in the BBQ Beef Cook-Off will receive a cash prize of $500; second and third place winners will receive $250 and $125, respectively. All place winners will receive a trophy. The first place winner in the Chili Challenge will receive a cash prize of $250 and a plaque; second and third place finishers receive $150 and $75, respectively. Applications for both competitions are available at the State Fair office in Huron or online at www.sdstatefair.com. To enter, complete the application and send to SD State Fair, 890 3rd St. SW, Huron, S.D., 57350 or hand-deliver to the Fair office. Entries must be submitted electronically or postmarked by Aug. 24. Fairgoers will have an opportunity to pick their favorite chili and BBQ by choosing People's Choice winners. People's Choice judging for chili will start at 1p.m. and BBQ judging will follow at 4 p.m. Winners will take home cash prizes and trophies. Both events are free to all fairgoers. Additional sponsors for the BBQ Beef Cook-Off include 1st Financial Bank USA and the South Dakota Beef Industry Council. Jack's Campers is the presenting sponsor of the Chili Challenge. The South Dakota State Fair will run Thursday, Sept. 3, through Monday, Sept. 7. Preview night is Wednesday, Sept. 2.
