This Week in Greysox Baseball

This Week in Greysox Baseball By Joe â??MOJOâ? Reiser Wednesday, June 24, the Vermillion Greysox took on the Upper Division Vermillion Red Sox at Prentis Park. The Red Sox proved to be too much to handle as their wooden bats would pound out 15 runs on 15 hits, to the Greysox five runs on eight hits. The majority of the Greysox hits came from center fielder Reid Meirkort, who banged out three singles and drove in the first Greysox run. Manager Ryan Baedke filled in for his brother at second base and delivered three RBIs in route to a 2 for 4 performance. Baedke's two-run homer in the fifth inning earned him the coveted "Bud Light Player of the Game" honors. Catcher Shae Williams was also 2 for 4 at the plate for the Grey. Kyle Mollet took the loss, as he was touched up for nine runs in the first two innings. Ryan Bak handled the relief duties in the seven inning shortened game. For the Red Sox, Jim "Nugget" McNaughton was leading hitter and social chairman as he slapped five hits in seven innings. McNaughton was on base so much that he established a great friendship with all of the Greysox infielders, as he toured the bases for three runs. Second baseman Brad Donavon had three hits with two runs scored. Center fielder Cody Davis drove in four runs on two hits and scored four runs for the Red Sox. Thomas Alessio was the winning hurler for the Red Sox, with some relief help from Casey Newman.  All in all, it was another beautiful night at the ball park. I will tell you that the visitor's dugout does collect the sun and heat. At times I thought I was under interrogation. The heat and bright lights did not get the best of me, but if the sun had not gone behind the outfield foliage, I may have confessed to the Lindbergh baby snatching incident. Ah, thus I jest my friends. Well, that's all for me for this week. The Greysox team's next action will be on Thursday, July 2 at Dakota Valley for a rematch with the Sioux City Pilots. Until next week, have a happy Fourth of July and please be safe. Thanks a billion. MOJO
