Vermillion Red Sox record drops to 7-6 By Parker Knox
Sportswriter The Vermillion Red Sox saw their record drop to 7-6 with a pair of losses last week. Teams from Renner continued to be a nemesis for the Red Sox as the Vermillion club lost to the Monarchs in Renner, 6-3. The Red Sox scored two runs in the first inning, but the Monarchs caught up with single runs in the second and fourth. Renner then put the game away with a three spot in the seventh and an insurance run in the eighth. Robin Chute had a home run for the Red Sox while Dan Hansen had three hits, including a double. Ken Longman started on the mound for the Sox, relieved by Brad Donovan in the fourth and Chute in the eighth. The previous night the Red Sox lost at home to the Vermillion Grey Sox, 15-5, as the intra-city series evened out at 1-1 so far. The winners outhit the Red Sox, 14-8, led by Ryan Baedke's home run. Jim McNaughton laced four hits, Brad Donovan three hits and Justin Beebe a double for the Red Sox who started Tom Alessio on the mound with Kasey Neumann entering in relief in the sixth. As of this writing, next week's Red Sox schedule includes a home date with Garretson at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and a road game at Beresford against Renner Thursday.
