Warner is president-elect of State Higher Ed Officers The executive director and CEO of the South Dakota Board of Regents is the new chair-elect of the State Higher Education Executive Officers (SHEEO), and will become the group's chairman in 2010. Jack R. Warner was named chair-elect of the group's executive committee at its annual meeting last week. SHEEO is a professional association of the higher education chief executives for 28 statewide governing boards and 29 coordinating boards. SHEEO helps states develop and sustain quality higher education systems by promoting strategic planning and statewide coordination and governance. "As a national organization, SHEEO is front and center in promoting the states' interests in improving their economic development and quality of life prospects by improving educational attainment and enhancing research," Warner said. "SHEEO works hand in hand with federal agencies, other education associations, and individual colleges and universities across this country to collect and exchange data and information, develop standard definitions and practices, and conduct research studies," he said. Warner came to head up the South Dakota system this summer after seven years in a similar role as commissioner of the Rhode Island Board of Governors for Higher Education. He was also vice chancellor of the Massachusetts higher education system for five years.
