Clay County Sheriff
investigates recent rural burglaries The Clay County sheriff's office is investigating two rural home burglaries which occurred this summer. On June 16, an occupied residence one mile north of Vermillion was entered and one or more suspects attempted to steal a flat screen television before fleeing the residence without it. This incident occurred at night while the residents were asleep. On July 20, a residence southwest of Beresford was entered while no one was home and numerous electronic items were stolen including a flat screen television. Other that the fact that electronics were involved in both incidents and the fact that they occurred one month apart, there is no indication that these two incidents are related. It is unusual that rural burglaries occur while residents are home which causes more concern for law enforcement than more typical burglaries where the structures are unoccupied. The Clay County sheriff is asking that anyone with any information regarding these or any other burglaries contact us to aid in solving these two cases. For more information contact Sheriff Andy Howe at 605-677-7100 or ccso@claysheriff.org.
