Memorial service
set for former Coyote football player A memorial service is set for former University of South Dakota football player Edward Sundby, who died Sunday, Aug. 9 at the age of 54. Sundby was the starting offensive tackle on the Coyotes' 1978 North Central Conference championship team and came to USD on a football scholarship from his native Prairie Village, KS. He played at USD from 1975-78 and worked his way into the starting lineup in 1976. He was also part of the offensive line that helped Mike Maguire gain a then-school record 271 rushing yards in 1977 in a win over Nebraska-Omaha. In Sundby's senior year, USD finished 7-4 overall and 5-0-1 in the North Central Conference to win the league title. The memorial service for Sundby is set for Thursday, Aug. 13 at the St. Michaels and All Angels Church in Mission, KS. Sundby is survived by his wife, Georgia, and sons, Christopher and Stephen. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family in care of Steve and Nancy Winkel of Overland Park, KS.
