SDPB, AARP South Dakota will present Health Care Series

SDPB, AARP South Dakota will present Health Care Series Americans are talking about health care. South Dakota Public Broadcasting and AARP South Dakota bring the topic to the state with a series of "Conversations on Health Care" programs and reports. The events include a town hall-style meeting in Aberdeen, one-hour programs on SDPB Radio and SDPB Television, and news reports on SDPB Radio. Town Hall Meeting The first event is a public town hall-style meeting Tuesday, Aug. 18, at 7 p.m., in Northern State University's Johnson Fine Arts Center. The event will be moderated by SDPB Radio News Director Cara Hetland, and includes a panel of experts, including former U.S. Sen Tom Daschle; David Hewitt, President of the South Dakota Association of Health Care Organizations; David Owen, President of the South Dakota Chambers of Commerce & Industry; and others in the health care and business fields. The meeting will be presented on air on Tuesday, Aug. 25 at noon on SDPB Radio, and 8 p.m. on SDPB Television (TV re-run Sunday, Aug. 30, at 1 p.m.). South Dakotans' stories SDPB Radio will look into the health care stories of ordinary South Dakotans throughout the week of Aug. 24-28, with "Dakota Digest" news reports at 7:35 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. In addition, "Dakota Midday" will feature South Dakotans' stories and health care experts on Monday, Aug. 24, and Wednesday, Aug. 26, both at noon. Congressional Delegation The views of South Dakota's Congressional Delegation – U.S. Sens. Tim Johnson and John Thune, and U.S. Rep Stephanie Herseth Sandlin – will be part of an hour-long program that also features some of the health care struggles and stories of ordinary South Dakotans. The program will be presented on air on Thursday, Aug. 27, at noon on SDPB Radio, and  8 p.m.  on SDPB Television. (TV re-run Sunday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m.). More programming The conversation continues with more programming on SDPB. SDPB Radio will look at the planned merger of the South Dakota/North Dakota health giants Sanford Health, based in Sioux Falls, and Merit Care in Fargo during the week of Sept. 7 with "Dakota Digest" news reports at 7:35 a.m and 5:30 p.m. In addition, SDPB and Prairie Public Radio of North Dakota will present a joint call-in program one day during the week (date pending) at noon. SDPB TV's "South Dakota Focus" will look at the merger and what health care reform means for South Dakota with a program on Thursday, Sept. 10 at 8 p.m. (re-run Sunday, Sept. 13, 1 p.m.). "Focus" looks at health care costs on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 8 p.m. (re-run Sunday, Sept. 20, 1 p.m.).
