The Rural Office of Community Services, Inc. in Lake Andes has received Federal American Reinvestment and Recovery Act funding to provide assistance to lower income individuals and families. To qualify for the following services, your household must be at or below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Guideline. Clients must fill out necessary paperwork and submit income verification to qualify for services.
Emergency Basic Needs: Qualified households can receive assistance with past due utility bills, propane/fuel oil, first month's rent, rental deposits, past due rent or mortgages. Assistance amounts may vary depending upon need.
Public Transportation Passes: Qualified households will receive a limited number of public transportation passes to use for work, school, medical appointments, day care, shopping, etc…
New Employment Program: This program will provide vouchers for clothing, equipment or shoes, or gasoline, or public transportation passes for clients who have been hired or recently started new regular full or part time work.
Eye Health Program: This program will provide assistance to qualified households for their eye health needs. The program will pay for eye exams, glasses/contacts. Each qualified applicant will be eligible for $250 to use towards their eye health needs, with a household maximum of $500.
Prescription Program: This program will provide assistance to qualified individuals and families for their prescription expenses. Each qualified person will receive $200 prepaid to their pharmacy for prescription expenses beyond insurance/Medicare/Medicaid payments. Household maximum for this program is $600.
Clients in the following counties are eligible for ARRA funded services: Aurora, Bon Homme, Brule, Buffalo, Charles Mix, Clay, Douglas, Davison, Gregory, Hanson, Hutchinson, Jerauld, Jones, Lyman, Mellette, Sanborn, Todd, Tripp, Union, Yankton.
The Rural Office of Community Services, Inc. will also have ARRA funding available for food pantry assistance, food vouchers for clients and emergency gasoline needs.
