National and state award-winning writer and USD graduate, Paula Bosco Damon, will be a guest speaker at the Vermillion Public Library, Thursday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. At the event, Damon will read selections from her collection "Look-Don't Look," many of which center on everyday life and on her experiences growing up in Pennsylvania and New York. This free event is open to the public.
Currently a resident of South Dakota, Damon recently earned three first place awards in the 2009 South Dakota Press Women Communications Contest. The writer's winning entries were selected from her weekly column, "My Story Your Story," which appears in The Vermillion Plain Talk. Her works have also appeared in The Sioux City Journal, where she was a news reporter and columnist for many years.
In 1993, Damon won first place nationwide in the NFPW Communications Contest and first place statewide in Iowa Press Women Communications Contest. Previously, her writing has won numerous awards in Iowa and South Dakota Press Women Communications Contest.
She currently is the director of marketing and communications at Briar Cliff University, where she oversees marketing and communications for the university, including media relations, advertising and the web. She holds a bachelor's degree in mass communications and a master's degree in English from The University of South Dakota.
