Craig Thompson Law Office of Vermillion won its second consecutive team title at the VVV triathlon held at Lewis & Clark Lake on Sunday, Sept. 6. The team consisted of Terry Rolfe, Craig Thompson and Matt Maxon and had a winning time of 1:03:14. Ben, Julie and Lori Brunick made up Team Brunick of Vermillion that finished 15th in a time of 1:33:55.
In the individual competition, three Vermillion High School graduates finished in the top five: Justin Manning, 2004, second, 58:56; Mark Lavin, 1996, fourth, 1:01:23; and Randy Rasmussen, 1979, fifth, 1:02:03.
Other Vermillion finishers were Darin Wadley, 18th, 1:10:41; Tyler Samson, 27th, 1:13:34, Carol Lavin, 54th, 1:19:05; Katie Naslund, 135th, 1:42:12 and Paige Chapman, 136th, 1:42:35. Former Vermillion resident Carrie (Engstrom) Wheelhouse was 77th in 1:22:55.
The sprint distance triathlon was a 400-yard swim, a 14-mile bike ride and 3.1 mile run. Seventeen teams and 150 individuals completed the race.
