Glenn Hanson, 88, of rural Elk Point, died on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, in the comfort of his own home.
Glenn was born on Dec. 10, 1920 to Alfred and Elodes (Culp) Hanson, in Elk Point. He grew up there, graduating from Elk Point High School in 1939.
He married Helen Rudolph on Feb. 22, 1944. They spent their lives together raising their family until her death in Sept. of 1986. Glenn farmed for 60 years before retiring. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. His biggest hobby was going to watch sprint car and midget races, which he did for 60+ years. He also loved to dance and travel, going on numerous trips, including visiting overseas.
Glenn is survived by his daughters, Karen (Austin) Walther of Santa Rosa, CA, Glennda (Dean) Thompson of St. Paul, MN, and Jeanette (Bruce) Schoewe of Harrisburg; his son, Marlon (Pamela) Hanson of Vermillion; a very special friend for 21 years, Katherine Swanson of Omaha, NE; seven grandchildren; his brothers, Burdette (Gladys) Hanson and Adrian (Carolyn) Hanson, both of Elk Point.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred & Elodes Hanson, his wife Helen, and his grandson, Billy Schoewe.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. with visitation one hour before the service, Thursday, Sept. 10 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Elk Point, with Rev. Mary Feistner officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery immediately following the service.
Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at Anderson-Siecke-Kober Funeral Home in Elk Point with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
