During the upcoming months, a series of Historics and Flicks are scheduled at the Vermillion Public Library. These adult programs will include novels with a historic emphasis and their film adaptations. Following the showing of the films, a brief discussion will be held to examine the cultural and literary context of the books, as well as to share comments on the quality of the interpretations of the film versions.
Tracy Chevalier's Girl with a Pearl Earring, is the first featured selection in the series. The film will be shown on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 6-9 p.m. in the Community Room at the Vermillion Public Library. Following the movie, a brief discussion will be facilitated by Dr. Julie Schlarman, USD art history professor. Hot drinks and popcorn will be provided.
Copies of this novel about the famous Vermeer painting and life in 17th century Holland are available at the circulation desk.
