Local soldiers deployed to join 147th in Kuwait

Four soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 147th Field Artillery have been activated to deploy to Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Pfc. Myles Runyon, Vermillion, and Pfc. Alex Toupal, Yankton, members of Battery C, 1st Battalion, 147th Field Artillery in Yankton, and Pfc. Ricardo  Ramos, Mount Vernon, and Pfc. Josiah Mueller, Mitchell, members of Forward Support Company, 147th Field Artillery in Mitchell, will join their battalion already stationed at Camp Patriot in Kuwait.

The soldiers are expected to report to Fort Benning, GA, later this week to complete all required mobilization training prior to deployment overseas. More than 300 members of the 1st Battalion, 147th Field Artillery from units in Watertown, Aberdeen, Yankton and Mitchell, were mobilized in April, and assumed command of daily operations and security at Camp Patriot earlier this month. The unit is expected to serve for one year.
