Margaret Fortin of Atwater, CA died Aug. 30, 2009 after a brief illness.
Margaret was the eldest daughter of Joseph J. and Marie (Bourdelais) O'Connor. She attended Cathedral High School in Sioux City, IA and graduated from Vermillion High School in 1938. Following graduation she attended a business college in Sioux City and was then employed by Harried Electric and Macy-Benson Motor in Vermillion until moving to California in 1940.
She married Rene Fortin in 1942. In later years she was employed by the MRFIT program, a program dedicated to preventing heart disease. She also worked in the Cancer Research Department of USC.
Margaret is survived by her five children, Marie Kramer of Redding, CA, Suzanne Stephenson of Bend, OR, James Fortin of Merced, CA, Joanne Gaede of Bakersfield, CA, and Michelle Turner of Los Angeles, CA; her brother, David O'Connor of Pipestone, MN; Catherine Danielson of Vermillion, Letitia Boro of Middletown, NJ, Suzanne Sorheim of Gillette, WY, and Judy Shannon of Modesto, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2000 and brother Willard in 2008.
Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Atwater, CA on Sept. 7 and internment at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills, CA on Sept. 10.
Services were under the direction of Ivers and Alcorn Funeral Home of Atwater, CA.
