Programs for children, young adults begin at Vermillion Public Library

Fall programs at the Vermillion Public Library have begun.  There are story times available for children from birth through age 5.  Baby Lapsit Story Time is on Thursdays at 10 a.m..  This program involves nursery rhymes, finger plays, movement songs, and board books.  It focuses on early literacy skills and is for babies from birth to 12 months of age.  It is for non-walkers.  For 1, 2 and 3 year olds, there are Toddler Story Times on Tuesdays.  Times are 10:30 and 11:15 a.m. or 6 and 6:30 p.m..  Several short books are read and there is music and movement.  An adult care giver must be present during these programs.

Preschool Story Times are offered several times a week, on Monday evenings at 6:30 or 7 p.m., and Wednesday or Thursday mornings at 11:15 a.m..  This program is for 3, 4, and 5 year olds and involves a longer book and a related craft project.  During this half hour program, children will be in the Activity Room and parents are encouraged to remain in the Children's Area.  All of these fall programs run from Sept. 14 to Dec. 3 and registration is required.

After school programs are also offered for school age children.  Programs are generally on Thursdays from 3:45 to 5 p.m..  Fall programs for early elementary students include Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs on Sept. 17; The Very Hungry Caterpillar on Oct. 8; and Prairie Bud Books on Nov. 5.  For upper elementary students there will be Diary of a Wimpy Kid on Sept. 24; Where the Wild Things Are on Oct. 15; and Prairie Pasque Books on Nov. 12.  A typical program includes activities such as trivia, games, crafts, and scavenger hunts.  Snacks or treats are also provided by the library.

Young adults in grades sixth through 12th are invited to a special program on Sept. 29 at 4 p.m..  Activities will focus on Banned Books Week.  The Teen Advisory Group and YA Book Club will also be organized at this time.  If you are interested in participating in either of these groups, please make plans to attend or contact Joyce at the library.
