The Vermillion School District in cooperation with The University of South Dakota's School of Education will once again participate in the Professional Development Center (PDC). The PDC program provides first-year teachers with mentors during the first year of teaching. In addition, all participants in the program continue with university classes to support professional development. The program gives new teachers a structure for teacher learning that is focused on student needs. PDC has served participating teaching professionals for over 15 years in communities around the state of South Dakota.
This year's mentors are Kelly Heine and Cathy Magee from the Vermillion Middle School. Heine graduated from USD and brings 20 years of teaching experience to the program. Magee received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and masters degree from USD. She has been teaching for six years.
Mentees for the school year include: Audrey Job, originally from Orlando, FL. Job will teach in the Vermillion Middle School, resource room. Job received her teaching degree from USD. Kellsey Kock from Westside, IA, graduated from Morningside College. Kock will be teaching fourth grade at Jolley School. Jessica Murphy is from Rapid City. Murphy is a USD graduate and will teach seventh grade reading at the Vermillion Middle School.
