Donald B. Kenton

Donald B. Kenton, 73 years of age from Minden, NE, died on Friday, Oct. 9, 2009 at his home in Minden. Don was born on April 3, 1936 near Gibbon, NE to Burton and Wynette (Lockwood) Kenton. He grew up and attended rural school in Buckeye Valley north of Gibbon. After graduating from Kearney High School in 1956, Don worked for the Union Pacific Railroad.

On Dec. 9, 1956 he married Marilyn Rayment. They made their home in Kearney and he began a career in the heating and air conditioning business. The family moved to Minden in 1967 where Don continued working in the heating and air conditioning business. Don later drove truck, hauling livestock until he retired in 2005.

Don enjoyed growing roses, playing with the baby pigs he raised, playing cards, golfing and Husker football. Most of all he enjoyed his family, especially teasing his grandchildren.

Don was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden. Memorials are suggested to Bethany Lutheran Church or the Kearney County Relay for Life.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn of Minden; four sons, Greg Kenton and his wife, Angel of Wilmington, NC, Scott Kenton and his wife, Denise of Trinidad, CO, Dave Kenton and his wife, Wendy of Overland Park, KS and Daniel Kenton and his wife, Lori of Vermillion; one daughter, Elizabeth White and companion Mitchell Cooley of Kearney; 10 grandchildren, Rachel, Reilly, Jennifer, Salina and her husband, Clay, Lindsay and her husband, Cody, Aldo, Anthony, Augustino, Atillio and Ethan; three great-grandchildren, Jase, Lilly and Ava; two brothers, Jerry Kenton of Palm Desert, CA and Jim Kenton of Minden and one sister, Lorraine Reed of Centralia, MO.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Betty, Vera and Lelia and granddaughter, Tabby.

Memorial services were on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with Rev. Donald Hunzeker officiating. Burial was prior to the memorial service. There was no visitation. Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden was in charge of arrangements.
