Jolly JJs give thank yous

On July 20, members of the Jolly J.J.'s 4-H club met at the Extension building at 6:30 p.m. for the monthly meeting. Brittany Hanson called the meeting to order. Ashley Sorensen led the Pledge of Allegiance and Tyler Bruce-Lowe led the 4-H pledge. Ashley Sorensen read the secretary report and Pam Hanson gave an updated treasurer's report.

Old business: A verbal thank you was given to those who helped collect pop tabs for the "Kids Helping Kids" community service project. A short assessment over the project was taken. Ice cream cake was enjoyed by all as a reward to the completion of the project. Thank yous were also given to those who helped work in the food stand during the Sioux Valley Kennel Show in June and to those who helped with the Vermillion Community Theatre play "In Every Generation" in July.

New business: An upcoming S.E.T. Day was mentioned. Pam went over all the upcoming Clay County Fair and Achievement Days deadline, responsibilities and general project entry requirements.

Carol Sorensen informed club members of the upcoming M.S. Bike Ride and let everyone know that our club will cheer the bikers on as they cross the finish line in Vermillion on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Club members helping listed their T-shirt sizes for T-shirts given to the volunteers. Pam Hanson talked about the upcoming Sesquicentennial 5K Run that the 4-H club was asked to help man the water station at on Saturday, Aug. 8.

Discussion took place about switching future club meetings to Sunday afternoons. Everyone agreed to try a Sunday meeting in September. The next club meeting will then be on Sunday, Sept. 20, starting at 2 p.m. Journals will be worked on and election of new officers will take place.

The meeting was adjourned. Three demonstrations were presented: Abby Weiss "How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookies," Ashley Sorensen "How to Plant a Seed" and Brittany Hanson "How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookies."

Marley Hanson presented a judging school on "Nutrition Labeling – Orange Juice."

Club members worked on priming and painting 4-H signs.

Brittany Hanson and Ashley Sorensen provided refreshments.
