Memorial services for Beth Ford were at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at Trail Ridge Retirement Community in Sioux Falls. Inurnment followed at Dalesburg Baptist Cemetery.
Beth was born Oct. 10, 1923 in Vermillion, to Torsten and Elizabeth (Anderson) Bystrom. She died Nov. 10, 2009 in Sioux Falls, at the age of 86 years, and one month.
She was raised in the Dalesburg area where she attended school. She was Homecoming queen and graduated from Centerville High School in 1941. After graduating from Augustana Hospital in Chicago, Beth worked as a registered nurse at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD and Mount Sinai in New York, NY. In addition to her work, she attended the Peabody Institute for piano and voice. Afterward, Beth appeared in light opera productions. She also did some modeling in NY, appearing in television commercials and print ads.
Due to her asthma, Beth moved to California in the late 1950s. She married Lewis Ford in San Francisco, CA in 1962. Beth earned her Masters of Science from California State University, Dominguez Hills in 1980. They enjoyed traveling together. Beth continued to work as a nurse into her 70s. Lewis died in 1997. She moved to Trail Ridge in Sioux Falls in 2003.
Beth is survived by her brother, Don Bystrom of Beresford and nephew, Mark (Sandra) Bystrom of Plover, WI. Her parents, husband and two brothers, John and Bob preceded her in death.
