Over 100 quilts are being collected for this weekend's Fall Quilt Show and Fundraiser for the Corps of Discovery Welcome Center at the St. James Marketplace in St. James, NE. The two-day quilting display event will be Saturday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 15, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
For a $3 entry fee, quilt lovers can browse two levels of quilting masterpieces and also take in the unique flavor of the Marketplace. Door prizes will be available every hour and a soup and sandwich lunch is available for $6.
Sunday evening will be a special fundraising event with a private viewing of the quilts and appetizers and cider at 4:30 p.m. The quilt displayers have been invited to be available during this special quilt preview to discuss their individual projects. This will lead into a presentation by James Horn on the "Material Culture of the Plains Indian" at 5:30 p.m. The final event of the day will be an evening meal of Native origin at 6:30 p.m.
Reserve tickets for this night of entertainment can be purchased by contacting the Welcome Center, 402-667-6557. Tickets for a couple are $40 or an individual can purchase them for $22.
A grant was received by the Welcome Center organization to defray expenses from the Cedar County Visitor Bureau.
If someone would still be interested in displaying a quilt, they will still be accepted at the Marketplace on Thursday, Nov. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m.
