Ryan Kost and Sarah Day have been selected as the Vermillion High School September Students of the Month. Their nominations by the VHS faculty members were from their leadership in the classroom and in their extra-curricular activities. Each student will receive a $100 scholarship from First Bank & Trust in Vermillion for their post high school education.
Kost is "an outstanding leader within the student council program here at VHS." "He has to multitask frequently and uses his head to make the best decisions on a variety of activities," according to his faculty recommendation. He is involved with football, track and Student Council. He attended Boys State and was an American Legion Citizenship Award winner. Curt and Junella Kost are his parents and he plans to attend the University of South Dakota Business School upon graduation.
Day's activities include National Honor Society, track, Student Council, Natural Helpers, cross country and SADD. She was a Girls State delegate, earned a VHS Citizenship award, and attended the Governor's Youth Leadership luncheon. She plans to major in International Studies in college. Day is "a selfless contributor in all facets of community and school life." "She is willing to aid struggling and new students," as noted in her faculty endorsement. Her parents are David and Lynne Day.
