Ervin "Erv" Brunick, 89, of Sioux Falls, died Monday, Dec. 1, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls.
Erv was born Dec. 8, 1919 in Vermillion, to Alfred and Inga (Paulson) Brunick. He attended Clay County Rural School, Meckling High School and was attending the University of South Dakota in Vermillion before entering the Army in 1942.
He married Bess Nicholson on May 30, 1942 in Abilene, TX, and spent 3 ? years as a Code Radio Operator with the 36th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron. As a Troop Commanding Sergeant, he received Battle Stars for Rhineland and Central Germany and was awarded the Bronze Star.
Ervin completed his degree work at USD in 1946 and spent a number of years in sales work before entering the Postal Service in 1966, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of the Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, the American Legion, and a life member of the VFW Post 628.
He is survived by his wife, Bess; a son, Larry (Barbara) of Rosemount, MN; a daughter, Elaine (Harold) Yeo of Los Osos, CA; four grandsons; Andrew and Scott Brunick, John and Adam Yeo; a brother, Sidney Brunick of Vermillion; and two sisters, Ardis Hammerquist of Bend, OR, and Natalie (Bob) Johnson of Vermillion.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial was in the Meckling Cemetery rural Meckling, at 1 p.m. For online condolences and obituary please visit hansenfuneralhome.com.
