Kathryn "Kitty" Tilton, 93, of Vermillion, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 at Prairie Estates Care Center in Elk Point.
Kitty was born on Sept. 27, 1916 in Vermillion, to Chester and Julia (Severson) Collins. She graduated from Vermillion High School. In February of 1948 she married William "Bill" Tilton in Sioux City, IA. He preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 1993. Kitty and Bill operated the Gamble store for many years, and also operated Tilton Gas & Electric, and Propane. She was always an ambitious lady. Kitty also was an Avon lady, sold Bee Line Clothing and worked in grocery stores demonstrating food.
She played violin and as a young lady, volunteered her time in the church orchestra and church choir. A member of United Methodist Church in Vermillion, she was a very active volunteer, singing in the choir and helping out wherever needed until the end of her life.
She is survived by her nieces, Shirley (JR) Brunick of Vermillion, Peggy Taylor of Sioux City, IA, and Patty (Wendy) Staab of Remsen, IA; and nephew, Jerry (Sharon) Collins of South Sioux City, NE and their families.
Kitty is preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Julia Collins; and her husband, Bill Tilton, her brothers, Mike and Dale, and her sister, Marguerite.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009 at United Methodist Church in Vermillion, with Rev. Brook McBride officiating. Burial followed at BluffView Cemetery in Vermillion.
Visitation was held one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the church.
