Emma Getzin and Nick Mart have been named as the October Students of the Month at Vermillion High School. Through their academic and extra-curricular efforts, they have demonstrated leadership at VHS. Each will receive a $100 scholarship from First Bank & Trust-Vermillion.
Getzin "is a leader and helps other students who do not catch on as quickly. She exemplifies a model student," according to her faculty endorsement. She plans to attend the University of South Dakota majoring in Biology and Pre-med.
Her activities have included band, track, tutoring, book club and National Honor Society. She was a delegate to Girls State and she attended the Youth Business Adventure. Her parents are Richard and Lois Getzin.
Mart has been active in wrestling, football, reading club and the St. Agnes Youth Group. He has been Big 8 All-Conference four times in wrestling and once in football.
"Nick is an outstanding mentor for the underclassmen as I have observed in the halls, at school convocations, and at community functions," as noted by his faculty recommendation. He is always upbeat and willing to help whenever asked." His parents are Jeff and Julie Mart.
