Plenty of VHS sports on tap during holiday vacation

Vermillion sports fans will have opportunity to see their high school teams in action during the holiday vacation.  Unfortunately most of the competitions will be taking place on the same day.

The Tanager wrestlers will compete in the high-charged Floyd Farrand Invitational Tournament hosted by Sioux Falls Lincoln on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 28-29.  The state's best Class "A" and "B" teams will be there in a field that will be every bit as tough as the state tournament itself.

Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. each day.

The only home competition during the holidays will be the gymnastics team's Winter Wonderland meet at the VHS gym on Tuesday.  Warmups begin at 9:30 a.m. with the first rotation of competition set to start at 11:30 a.m.

In basketball, the girls and boys teams will all play at Tea Area on Tuesday, Dec. 29.  The double tripleheader of six games will start with the freshman boys' game at noon, followed by the freshman girls at 1:15 p.m., the JV boys at 2:30 p.m. and the JV girls at 3:45 p.m.  The varsity contests will tip off at 5 p.m. with the girls game and the boys game at 7 p.m.

The two VHS varsity basketball teams will then make their first appearance in Winner's Snowball Classic on Saturday, Jan. 2.  The Vermillion and Winner girls teams will tip off at 5 p.m. with the boys' varsity contest at 6:45 p.m.  Girls and boys games between Platte-Geddes and Red Cloud will be played there earlier in the afternoon.
