Fifth-place finishes by Rory Tucker on the balance beam and Elly Melby in floor exercise were Vermillion's best scores as the Tanagers placed fifth in Wagner's invitational meet Saturday.
Amber Walker's seventh in the vault and Melby's ninth on the parallel bars and 10th in the vault were other top-10 places for the Tanagers.
As all-around competitors Vermillion's two junior leaders, Melby and Walker, placed eighth and 14th, respectively, in those standings with scores of 29.750 and 27.750.
Madison's perennial state champions won the team title and had the top six individuals in the all-around standings, led by sophomore Laura Blom at 36.150.
Madison blew away the competition in the team standings with 140 points. Stanley County was closest to the Bulldogs with 118.100, followed by Wagner, Chamberlain and Vermillion at 108.700.
The Vermillion team goes to Yankton for a dual at 6:30 p.m. Monday, then hosts its Winter Wonderland meet at the VHS gym Dec. 29.
