A composition from Dr. Stephen Yarbrough, D.M.A., composer-in-residence at The University of South Dakota, will premiere this Christmas season.
Yarbrough's "The Joys of Mary," will premiere during "Christmas at the Cathedral" in Sioux Falls, Dec. 17-20.
"The Joys of Mary," a composition piece for chamber orchestra, will also be part of "Christmas at the Cathedral's" national re-broadcast on CBS at 10:35 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Additionally, viewers will hear Yarbrough's "Angel's Dances" during Welch's Purple Grape Juice commercials for another year. According to Yarbrough, Welch's Purple Grape Juice said they will continue to use his composition in association with the company's Alton Brown TV ads. "The Powerful Polyphenol" commercial along with other videos featuring Brown and "Angel's Dances" began airing nationally last fall.
Yarbrough will pen the music for "State of Wonder," an upcoming South Dakota Public Broadcasting documentary featuring the work of Paul Schiller, a South Dakota photographer whose exhibition, also entitled "State of Wonder," is currently on display at the Al Neuharth Media Center at USD.
Yarbrough also plans to write a symphony based on the music from the documentary, which will be premiered by the South Dakota Symphony at a later date. In addition to "State of Wonder," Yarbrough is working on a commissioned cantata, "Everlasting Is His Love," for Mount Marty College's 75th Anniversary celebration. The composition will make its debut at the Bishop Marty Chapel at the Sacred Heart Monastery in Yankton.
