Betty Lou "Elizabeth" Groom, 85, died Jan. 1, 2010 at Sanford Vermillion Hospital in Vermillion,.
Betty Groom (nee Weems, Baker) was born in Oklahoma City, OK on Aug. 2, 1924 and spent most of her early years in Edmond, OK. She was a Master Photographer emeritus with a career spanning more than 60 years and a member of the Professional Photographers of Oklahoma, earning every award available. As an Air Force wife, she enjoyed a lifetime of travel, never forgetting her camera.
Betty Groom is survived by her daughter, Sandra Lea Dickenson (Ross) of Vermillion; son, Gerald Lee Groom of Oklahoma City; granddaughters, Amanda Dickenson, Vermillion, Robin McMullen (Bryan), Apple Valley, MN, Jennifer Dickenson, Honolulu, HI; brother, Billy Ray Baker (Phyllis), Bethany, OK; sister, Barbara Calaway (Edward), Edmond OK; and favored aunt, Dorothy Welch (Richard), Bartlesville, OK. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, LTC Otis Gerald Groom and her mother, Leona Thompson Baker.
A memorial service will be held at the Vermillion United Church of Christ, Congregational on Monday, Jan. 4 at 11 a.m. with lunch following. Later burial will be at her husband's side in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Edmond, OK.
