Community Blood Bank and Sanford Vermillion Medical Center will host a blood drive on Saturday, Feb. 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the USD Sanford School of Medicine building in conjunction with the annual health fair.
"During the first month of 2010 Community Blood Bank was forced to cancel six community blood drives due to the severe weather conditions. This has placed a heavy strain on the blood supply," states Ken Versteeg, executive director, Community Blood Bank. "community Blood Bank uses 550 units of blood per week to meet the needs of patients in our hospitals we serve. We are hoping this blood drive will help bring the supplies up to an adequate level to help get through the first part of February."
Donors must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with signed parent consent form found at www.cbblifeblood.org), weight 110 pounds or more and be in good general health the day of the donation. Please bring an ID with you. It is recommended that you eat and drink plenty of fluids before donating blood. It only takes 20 to 25 minutes to donate with Community Blood Bank. Community Blood Bank is the sole blood provider to Sanford Vermillion Medical Center and 28 other local hospitals. For more information log onto www.ccbblifeblood.org or call 1-877-877-3070.
