Eliane "Elly" J. Bertrand, 96, of Elk Point, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010 at Prarie Estates Care Center in Elk Point.
Elly was born on Jan. 21, 1913, to Henry and Amanda (Chicoine) Bertrand in Jefferson. She lived in Vermillion for 40 years before moving to Elk Point, and lived there for the last 20 years. She worked in Medical Records at Dakota Hospital in Vermillion.
Elly was a member of the Vermillion Eagles, and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elk Point.
She is survived by her sisters, Bennita Schmitz of Elk Point, and Lorraine Montagne of Sioux City; her granddaughter, Laurie Emge of Sioux City, IA, and Ann Lutgen of Montana; and her grandson, Larry Welch of Hinton, IA.
Elly is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Amanda Bertrand; three husbands, Earl Bryer, Francis Freeze, and Leonard Bertrand; two children, Mary Lou Welch and Jack "John" Bryer; and six brothers.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elk Point with Fr. David Roehrich officiating. There will be a rosary service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Fairview Catholic Cemetery in Vermillion.
